We explore the Ten Most unlucky musicians, if the cosmos had been a bit more in their favour who knows where they would be now?

10. Dave Mustaine, first guitarist for Metallica. He left to form his own metal band, Megadeth. Perhaps not as much money in his pocket but at least he was his own man.

9. Tracii Guns, guitarist for Guns n' Roses. After not showing up for a rehearsal Tracii was replaced by Slash. Tracii formed another band, L.A. Guns, who have had some success but clearly nothing like G n R.

8. Chuck Mosley, and Faith No More, Chuck Mosley, who left the band because of 'creative differences' was replaced by Mike Patton . Chuck went on to front Bad Brains, whilst Faith No More flourished.

7. The Backstreet Boys, Burk Parsons quit to become a minister, one wonders if he ever looked back and thought - Oh Lord why have you forsaken me'

6. Dave Evans, the original singer of AC/DC Bon Scott replaced Dave Evans just before the band became huge. Dave went on to front the band as The Hot Cockerels and we all know how well they have done.

5. Seventy three drummers failed to make it with Nirvana. Nirvana had 73 different drummers, before Dave Grohl joined in 1990. Dave joined just as the band took off, pretty good career move you could say.

4. Ian Stewart, founding member of The Rolling Stones. Ian and Brian Jones co-founded the band. But somehow Ian just wasn't Rock n Roll enough and he was eased out of the band, managing them for a while and playing a bit of keyboards.

3. Glen Matlock, original bassist of The Sex Pistols Was Glen kicked out because he liked The Beatles too much, who really knows ? What we do know is that he is one of the great bassists and still gigs brilliantly today.

2. Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd However successful they were to later become these words are always seemingly linked. Syd the creative genius of early Pink Floyd, quickly became addicted to drugs and after bad LSD trips could no longer function adequately and became a total recluse and left the Band. A bizarre twist, many years later when they were recording the tribute to Syd you Shine On You Crazy Diamond, he apparently walked into the studio !

1. Pete Best, the original drummer of the Beatles Ditched by the Beatles just before real success, reputedly he was too good looking for the other members of the band but we have heard rumours about a liaison between Lennon and Bests mother which might have had something to do with it. Anyway definitely the unluckiest drummer in the World.

10. Jack White - 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story'

From Jack Black, to Jack White, who is seen taking up the mantle of Elvis Presley in this 2007 comedy. The White Stripes front man provides a dead-on performance, even grasping Presley's often inaudible mumble, love of "kur-a-tay" and a massive entourage supported ego. The estranged White shows his funny side, a side no-one knew existed, until now.

9. Jack Black - 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'

Tenacious D's Jack Black stars in this cult comedy from 2004 as a vengeful biker who gets hit with Will Ferrell's flying burito, and proceeds to kick his dog from a bridge. A heartfelt, hilarious and classic film moment, that could not be missed from this list.

8. Dave Grohl, Meatloaf and Dio - 'Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny'

This film is already rock and roll enough, but goes one step further, aiding the help of Dave Grohl, Meat Loaf and Dio. Meatloaf plays Jack Black's rock-hating Dad (obviously), Grohl plays Beelzeboss aka. The Devil and Dio plays, well, Dio. It's a fantastic performance from a rocking cast.

7. Jon Bon Jovi - 'U-571' This has to be my favourite cameo on the list, as it is sheer rockin' genius. One minute Jon's minding his own business on a ship, the next minute those pesky Germans go and sweep him overboard and he drowns to. It shouldn't happen to somebody who's seen a million faces and rocked them all.

6. David Bowie - 'Zoolander'

Who better to judge an intense walk-off between Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson than ultra-hip and glamorous David Bowie? It's easily the best scene in the film, seeing bowie accompanied by 'cool dude' Billy Zane.

5. Twisted Sister - 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure' Do I really need to say any more? No, but I will. Twisted Sister (flanked by lovely ladies) jack a car and play 'Burn In Hell' while Pee Wee Herman whizzes past on a bicycle. The great thing is, it has no connection to the film, and to be truthful, there is no need for the appearance to feature at all. Despite this, it is absolutely brilliant.

4. Bruce Springsteen, "High Fidelity" (2000) Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is obsessed with music and he can't seem to take the next step in his adult life. In the movie, Rob has a conversation in his head out loud with the Boss, Bruce Springsteen of course, who shows up strumming a guitar in the studio, to offer some sage advice.. "Thanks, Boss," he says, saluting after it's over. It kind of is, but shouldn't be, as funny as it sounds

3. Billy Idol - The Wedding Singer

How many washed-up 80s rockers get to save the day in a hugely popular romantic comedy? Since Adam Sandler's 'The Wedding Singer' takes place in 1985 but was filmed in 1998, that means Billy Idol was 43 years old playing himself at 29 when he showed up on that fateful plane ride with Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This appearance alone probably upped his nostalgic 'cool' factor for a good 5 years or so.

2. Alice Cooper - 'Wayne's World'

Cooper's appearance in this classic film comes at a point when the devious Rob Lowe gives Wayne and Garth backstage passes to Cooper's show. Cooper is decked out in leather and black eye make-up, of course, and drops Native American knowledge on the boys prompting them to respond "we are not worthy." Hilarious.

1. Keith Richards - Pirates of The Caribbean

This might be a controversial top choice, but you have to give it up to Keith Richards, who plays the awesome character of Captain Teague Sparrow, Johnny Depps dad. Aww. Though you would think his appearance would be more comedic (it's actually quite dramatic), it's still bloody good.

Passing Strange is a story of a zealous, young, black musician who is suffocated in his church-going, middle class family living in South Central of LA. He wants to rebel and he does.

Somebody had truly said that grass looks always looks greener on the other side. Our musician learns this the hard way. He becomes a part of the sleazy society of Amsterdam where drugs are the order of the day. He has a series of love affairs there. Berlin is not better. It’s marked with politics and chaos. Immorality is a way of life there. Again, our musician faces a hard time keeping up his integrity and moral values. He has no choice but to present himself coming from a poor background in order to get ahead.

Lastly, our musician returns home. It’s not everything bad that our musician brings back home; he also brings some terrific musical styles in jazz, blues, and rock. So, can we say that our musician has a successful journey? At least, he got what every musician desires – different musical styles, depicting different cultures! Well, it’s for you to decide. Watch Passing Strange and experience the musical voyage!

The show has been created by Stew and Heidi Rodewald. This is the same duo that had formed the band named Stew. It won two Album of the Year Awards for its mind blowing numbers “Guest Host” and “The Naked Dutch Painter.” The duo, in 2000, patented the unique Afro-baroque sound used in the show.

Passing Strange was first shown at Berkeley Repetory Theater of California in the year 2006. Later, the show ran at the Public Theater through May and June, 2007. In 2008, the premier of the show was held at the Belasco Theater of Broadway on February 28.

The creative team of “Passing Strange” includes:
Stew – author of book, lyricist, and music composer
Heidi Rodewald – music composer
Annie Dorsen – director
Elizabeth Ireland McCann – producer
Karole Armitage – choreographer
David Korins – scene designer
Devin Adams – light designer
Elizabeth Hope Clancy – costume designer

Besides the above, there is the entire star cast which, with their realistic portrayal of each character, has made the entire story come to life on stage!

The story of Passing Strange is witty and makes you think about things that you have in life and things that you crave for, and whether those cravings are really worth it. The lyrics of each song carry a meaning that unveils with its melodious tune.

It’s not just our musician who learns something from his journey; the audience learns too. It’s a refreshing and entertaining experience watching this Broadway show.

Pick your phone and call the ticketing services now! They have resources and are skilled in booking tickets. They never disappoint theatre fans! Perhaps that’s why an increasing number of people are turning towards these services.

So, are you ready to join our rebellious musician in his extraordinary expedition?

The South Pacific Broadway show comes under the category of the best musicals of this industry. And this history-making production is here in your city at the Vivian Beamont Theatre! Their official opening is on April 4, 2008.

The last time this musical was shown was in 1949 at the Majestic Theatre. From there, it moved to Broadway Theatre in 1953. It ran for over 5 years and gave 1,925 performances! In fact it’s the fifth longest running show in the history of Broadway!

The songs of this musical are powerful. Some of them like "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," A Wonderful Guy," and "Younger than Springtime" have become true classics across the world!

The original star cast included Mary Martin as Nellie Forbush and Ezio Pinza (opera star) as Emile de Becque. Juanita Hall as well as Betta St. John was also in the musical. The latest version of the musical has Kelli O’Hara as Nellie and Mathew Morrison as Lt. Joe Cable. Both are renowned artists of Broadway.

The music has been given by Richard Rodgers and lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein II, who has also co-written the book with Joshua Logan. The musical is inspired by two short tales extracted from the book “Tales of the South Pacific” by James A. Michener. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in the year 1948. The musical was also presented with Pulitzer Prize for Drama in the year 1950!

Sensitive issues like racism are freely discussed in this book and are shown in the musical too. At that time, touching such topics was precarious. According to sources, James had confessed that he was forced to request Rodgers and Hammerstein to cut the number “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught,” as it contained some pungent remarks about racism.

In 2005, there was a live presentation of concert version of “South Pacific” at the Carnegie Hall. It was edited to two hour duration. However, it contained all the songs and the complete musical score. This version starred Reba McEntire in the role of Nellie, Brain Stokes in the role of Emile, Lillias White playing the role of Bloody Mary, and Alec Baldwin playing Luther Billis. There was a complete supporting cast in this version. It also featured the original orchestrations of Robert Russell Bennett.

It’s time to watch history being created again after 60 years! Call yourself a theatre fan, eh? Then you gotta be there at Vivian Beamont theatre! The box office is already teeming with dedicated fans that have lined up to book their seats at the theatre. Don’t be lazy or you’ll be left without tickets!

Don’t wanna stand in the long line of the box office? Don’t worry. There are ticketing services that can arrange for tickets and even deliver them at your doorstep! Call them or book online.

South Pacific Broadway is here once again to incite your emotions. It’s a war-love story. What wins – war or love? Watch for yourself!

South Pacific musical is not what it seems to be. It’s neither a complete war story nor a total love story. It’s an interwoven tale of two couples who are caught in the web of war wrath and their own prejudices. They are people who want to love and commit, but are held back by their own thoughts that arise out of racism.

The South Pacific Musical Set

Inspired by the terrific work of James A. Michener, South Pacific musical is a depiction of two short stories taken from his book “Tales of the South Pacific.” The show was first shown in 1949 at the Majestic Theater. It created waves then! At present, the show is running at Vivian Beamont Theater since April 4, 2008. Even today, it is drawing a huge audience. A movie has also been made from this musical. A concert version of this show was held at the Carnegie Hall in 2005.

The lead pair of the current version of South Pacific musical includes Kellie O’Hara in the role of Nellie, who is a US Navy nurse. She falls in love with Emile de Becque, a plantation owner in the play. The character of Lt. Joe Cable is played by Mathew Morrison. This character falls for a young local Liat. The story is built on the backdrop of World War II.

War affects every aspect of people’s lives. It also affects love. So, when both these couples plan to commit and start a new life with each other, it’s war that comes in between them. Can the couples overcome the aftereffects of war to commit to each other? How do they deal with racism? These are some questions that will be answered at the Vivian Beamont Theater.

South Pacific musical is no ordinary show. It has won a Pulitzer and four Tony Awards. Besides, there are talented people like Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II behind the production of the show, not to forget the entire creative crew which has left no stone unturned to make this show one of the greatest musicals of Broadway.

There’s even a tour going on for the UK production of this show. The tour started in 2007 from the Blackpool Grand Theater. It will end in July 2008 at the Cardiff New Theater. The star cast of the tour show includes Helena Blackman playing the role of Nellie and Dave Willetts playing the role of Emile. Martin Dodd and Peter Frosdick have produced the show, while Julian Woolford has directed it. Chris Hocking has given wonderful choreography.

South Pacific musical contains songs like “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Bali Hai”, and “Nothing like a Dame.” These songs have the power to stir your senses. They have been created by the equally powerful duo, Rodgers and Hammerstein!

So, get ready to experience war live on stage! No, you won’t be injured nor would you cry. Instead, you’ll be left completely entertained and pondering over how small issues can crop up in human minds and turn into something as serious as war!
