Always use the same name when booking your trip that is on your state ID card. Even if there are slight variations, this can cause a lot of problems. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and you have just gotten married, use your maiden name if it is what is on your ID. Even though you may feel proud to say your new name, it will cause you a lot of headache when you get to the airport.

If you have any doubts about anything that you want to place in your carry-on bags, leave it at home. This may seem a bit extreme, but it is simpler than arriving at the airport and having issues when you go through security. Your other option would be to put any questionable options in your checked baggage. There is a lot more allowed in checked baggage, so you will most likely not run into any issues.

Get to the airport early. Most people know that getting to the airport a bit early is a good way to cut down on problems. This will give you ample time to check in with your airline, go through security and find the gate your flight is leaving from. You do not want to go to the airport very close to your departure time and then encounter one or more issues. You should arrive an hour early if you are taking a domestic flight and two hour earlier if your flight is international.

Traveling is already stressful, but taking little ones with you can make things even more crazy. When boarding a plane with small children, you will have to worry about getting them situated before you can relax and sit back. To avoid this issue, ask airline agents if they will allow you to board the plane first. Many airlines offer this courtesy automatically, but you should ask to make sure.

If you plan things correctly, you can reduce the amount of stress you experience while you are traveling by air. There are always things that can come up unexpectedly, but all of the tips above will reduce expected stress. This will make the flight uneventful and guarantee you will be in a better mood once you reach your destination.
