Vacuuming is very important not only for keeping your house clean but also keeping you away from allergens and bacteria. This info/guide will provide information about types of vacuum cleaners, types of filters, surfaces to vacuum, reasons for vacuuming and how to vacuum.

About Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuum cleaners function on air suction that is produced by the vacuum's motor connected to a fan, creating a fractional vacuum pressure which is lower than the pressure in the room. The differences in the pressures drive the airflow, starting from the cleaning head and traveling through the vacuum. The dirt, dust and debris end up in the vacuum bag/filter, whereas the air comes out from an exhaust port.

Types of Vacuum Cleaners

- Upright vacuums- Canister vacuums- Cordless vacuums- Handheld vacuums

Depending on your needs there is variety of vacuums to choose from, suitable for carpet cleaning, floor cleaning, quick cleaning, easily maneuverable and cleaning hard accessible places.

Types of Filter for Vacuum Cleaner

Mostly used are four types: standard filter, HEPA filter, S-class filter and Charcoal. The more efficient the filter, the lower number of particles will get away from the filter and get back into the room. HEPA filters and S-class filters are proven to capture over 99, 9% of the particles.

Surfaces to Vacuum

- Floor, any kind (tiles, parquet, laminate, linoleum, concrete) Carpet- Upholstery (bed, sofa, chair, drapes, cushion, mattress)- Shelves (book shelves, shoes shelves)

Reasons for Vacuuming

- When cleaning your home, you should start from top to bottom, which means that the dust and dirt will fall down on the floor or carpet after you had wiped the window, picture, furniture and other elements hanged on walls.

- Dirt and dust gets into the carpet easily, and while you are moving around the dust bounces from the carpet and flies in the air. The corners of the carpet are place where the dust pile and they need to be vacuumed first before vacuuming the whole carpet.

- It is advised to vacuum the floor rather then sweeping or moping. With vacuuming all the dust and harmful particles are cleaned up, whereas while moping they are just moved around the floor.

- Vacuuming the upholstery is a must. Vacuum cleaners come with a pack of accessories. There should be a smaller head that can reach the inaccessible places such as bed corners and gaps where dirt and dust mound.

How to Vacuum

- Start from the top to bottom, pass all the edges around, and continue from the farthest corner going backwards. Going backwards is easier since you don't push the vacuum cleaner rather it is pulled.

- Do front to back overlapping and repetitive movements while slightly moving to the left or right.

Do Not Forget

- To check the bag/filter.- Replace the bag.- Clean the filter.- Dust first all the accessories and furniture in the room then vacuum clean. Do not do that with feather dust; it relocates the dust. Do it with wet rug.- Vacuum clean under and around the furniture. If it is needed and possible move them.- If you are not vacuuming on a daily basis do that every third day, it improves the indoor air quality.- Use the vacuum accessories to vacuum hard accessible places, corners, upholstery and narrow openings.- Keep the vacuum head clean.
