Do you need some fashion tips to be on trend this season? Party dresses this year are all about flashback fashion, modern twists and unique vibes. Colours and patterns are wide ranging this year, from black and white to polka dot neon. There is a lot you can do with the basic party dress this year, and it's all about what you prefer.

2011 is all about turning flashback fashion into modern, eclectic styles. Have you noticed the throwback 1960s style dresses in the basic clothing retail stores? They're hot and ready to take over the runways this year. The pencil dress skirt is no longer old fashioned or meant for the matronly. It's a sexy party dress in today's world, tightly fitted and perfectly shaped to show off your curves or, if you're tall and lean, create the illusion of them. Polka dot dresses are bubbly and cute, with just a hint of sensuality. These skirts are full and feminine, providing a thin waistline and the perfect opportunity to pair it with either ballet flats or classic black heels. The polka-dot print keeps it playful, while a high neckline makes sure its age appropriate.

This year is also bringing up a new twist on old fashions. Instead of just rocking a little black dress, why not take the same concept and turn it into a tiered dress - in different shades of colour? Soft pinks, bright oranges, neon greens and lacy whites are all showing up in dresses. One shoulder floral numbers are an ode to vintage fashions while the eyelet lace minis are taking flapper fashions and turning them into something brand new. These dresses are being teamed up with ankle boots and glammed up, bedazzled high heels. Boots are really the star of the season this year. Short boots crop off at the ankle and provide a slimming effect on everyone's legs. On tall girls they accentuate their gams, and one short ladies, it gives them the illusion of taller, slenderer legs. It's a win for everybody involved.

Shift dresses are comfortable and casual. They come in vintage styles; lace, big sleeves and bracelet cuffs in a variety of colours including cream, military green or lavender. These can be paired with ankle boots too, as well as flats or pumps. It's the perfect casual dress for the most casual party. Orange hues are stealing the scene too, due in part to the fact that this fall is crazy about tribal prints, colours and tones. The burnt orange colours are paired up with a basic leather jacket, military jacket or boho chic cardigan. It is all about the combination of your pieces that make a look your very own.

Elegant, sophisticated looks include the one-piece minis. In the store they look like loose panels of material until you try them on. They encase your figure and allow room for movement, so it's good for both petite and taller girls. They look fantastic matched up with leggings, boots or sky-high heels.
