Are you trying to find the right resume format to use for your resume so you can be confident that you have a professional one that will help you get results? Then you have to know some important information about the different types of formats that you can choose to use.

The first thing that you need to know is that there are three different types of formats. You can find the chronological, functional or a combination of these two. The type that you use is up to you and the employer.

There are some employers that prefer a specific type, so always be sure you check into this before you start writing your resume so you can be sure the right type is being used for that particular employer.

Now you need to know some information about each specific type so you can find the one that is the best for your resume writing needs. The following is a little information about each of the three types.

1. Chronological - This format type is the traditional and most common type used. It is also the easiest type for anyone to write. The way that you organize it is in reverse order, starting with your most recent employment and going back to your first employment.

Employers like this type of format because it is very easy to read and can be looked over quickly. This is important to any employer because they will more than likely get a lot of applicants for one specific job that they have to go through and it will save them time when looking at all of the resumes.

2. Functional - This is the type of format that places emphasis on the skills you have since it is a summary of your qualifications. It starts with your education, experience, achievements and skills; instead, of leading with your employment history.

With this type, there is little emphasis placed on the employment because the jobs where you will use this type want to know your skills and not the work history because this is the most important information for them to decide whether to hire you or not.

3. Combination - This type takes the best features from the chronological and the functional formats and combines them into one well written resume. You will be able to provide a strong summer for your skills and accomplishments, which is the functional part.

You will also be able to give an employer your detailer employment history, which is the chronological format. This type lets you combine everything important into one resume so you have the best chance possible of getting the job you are applying for.

Now that you know of the different types of formats, you can easily decide on the resume format that will fit your job needs. You are the one that needs to decide this, so be sure you make your choice carefully.
