The romance of Christmas comes from nostalgia and sentimental memories. Christmas reminds of simpler times, and permits us to recall wonderful fun enjoyed with family and friends, both present, and those who have passed away. For me, Christmas is a time to share traditions and memories with the younger generations in uncommon ways that allow them to grasp how their ancestors might have partied.
Every Christmas season, I like to do something a bit unique - whether is it hanging unique lights on the Christmas tree or finding new ornaments with which to decorate the house. Call it weird if you like, but this Christmas, I've decided to buy a log cabin wooden mailbox and embellish it with a Christmas theme. The plan is to honor Grandma. No, she didn't live in a log cabin wood mail box, however she did reside in a log cabin that, each Christmas, she trimmed elegantly.
There are several log cabin wood mailboxes on the market today. TK Industries, Solar Group, and Fifthroom Markets are the most well known makers of wood mailboxes that are designed like log cabins. You can also find unique wooden mailbox designs in Amish country in Lancaster, PA and South of Buffalo, NY. The quest for our wood mail box will start with a visit to Amish country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As much as I enjoy the designs offered by TK Industries, Solar Group, and Fifthroom Industries, I simply would like the kids to get a sense of what it might was like a few hundred years ago, when log cabins dotten the landscape. There is one old Amish family I know that makes wood mailboxes and other wooden products, that might help me to build this new practice.
I want this wooden mail box to last for generations so, the initial thing I will ask for is to have the wooden mailbox built using Cedar wood. Cedar is ideal for exterior ornamental wood objects as it has natural pesticides that most critters will stay away from. Cedar is also ideal for a wood mailbox, because of its reddish color. just like traditional Lincoln Logs! I've also always prefered the way the Chrismas snows blanket the bows of cedar wood - the way the cedar wood is framed by the snow reminds me of peaceful times cross country skiing with Mom. Anyway, a cedar wood mailbox is the best choice to share my memories.
I will ask my Amish friend to construct a log cabin wood mailbox that has pitched roof, and, I will ask him to add a figurine of Santa and his sleigh its roof. Also, I am going to ask the crafter to make the windows of the log cabin wood mailbox glow, as though advent candles were burning resplendently inside. There will be a porch added on to the wood mail box also, where a Yuletide manger scene will be displayed.
I believe the kids will have extra fun and excitement receiving their Christmas cards in this Christmas wooden mail box, and might perhaps gain a greater appreciation for mailing Christmas cards as well. Forever, their holiday cards will be synonymous with this sentimental log cabin wood mail box and the new tradition started this year.
If you can't drive to Amish country, consider log cabin wood mail boxes from Solar Group, TK Industries and Fifthroom Markets.
